Team Learning Basics - Summer 2024

July 22 - August 25, 2024 | Fully online

Workshop Description

Cardinals, blue jay and song birds resting on perch

This five-week asynchronous online workshop provides an overview of team learning in higher education classrooms. Participants will discuss the benefits and challenges of team learning, explore team learning models and methods, determine when and why you might include team activities in your classes, and apply best practices for creating, managing, and assessing team learning activities. A $500 stipend is available for eligible participants.

Assignments and Due Dates

This workshop has weekly assignments due on Sundays to accommodate your teaching schedules. Two assignments will involve working on a small team with your cohort peers to complete a short activity. These will be synchronous activities via Zoom, in-person, or another medium of your choice, during a time of your choosing. For the final assignment, you will apply what you've learned by creating a team learning activity for one of your classes and conducting a peer review for a colleague.

Time Commitment and Stipend Information

This workshop is designed for faculty who currently teach at Cal Poly. Time commitment is 5-7 hours per week for a total of 25-35 hours, depending on prior knowledge, skill level, and experience. A $500 stipend is available for eligible faculty who complete all readings, quizzes, and assignments with an 80% minimum grade on each.
