The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) invites applications for the role of Senior Faculty Fellow for Faculty Success and Professional Advancement

A key priority of CTLT is advancing holistic faculty success in alignment with Cal Poly’s Teacher-Scholar Model and institutional commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, creative activity, leadership, and service. To advance this priority, CTLT seeks an experienced faculty member to serve as a strategic thought partner and faculty leader in cultivating a thriving and supportive academic culture across the faculty career arc. 

The Senior Faculty Fellow will collaborate closely with CTLT leadership and campus partners to help shape initiatives, resources, and professional learning opportunities that support faculty vitality, research, scholarship and creative activities (RSCA), mentorship, career advancement, and long-term professional flourishing. The Fellow will engage faculty across disciplines and career stages, contribute strategic guidance informed by deep institutional knowledge and leadership experience, and help faculty navigate and sustain meaningful professional and career trajectories across the university. 

This role is particularly suited for a faculty member with a demonstrated commitment to faculty mentorship, professional advancement, ethical leadership, and sustaining meaningful and impactful academic careers. 


Appointment and Compensation 

The appointment for the Senior Faculty Fellow for Faculty Success and Professional Advancement is for Fall Semester 2026 and Spring Semester 2027. 

The fellowship includes compensation equivalent to 4 Weighted Teaching Units (WTUs) per semester, and the successful candidate will retain their faculty appointment in their home department. A summer appointment may also be possible based on the Fellow’s availability and CTLT programming needs. 


Duties and Responsibilities 

The Senior Faculty Fellow for Faculty Success and Professional Advancement will:

  • Collaborate closely with CTLT leadership, Academic Personnel, and the Office of Research to identify faculty needs and help shape strategic initiatives supporting faculty success across teaching, scholarship, creative activity, leadership, and service.
  • Guide the development of faculty support efforts related to research, scholarship, and creative activities (RSCA), career advancement, mentorship, promotion and tenure navigation, academic leadership, and long-term professional sustainability.
  • Develop, lead, or co-facilitate faculty engagement opportunities such as workshops, institutes, learning communities, peer consultations, and leadership conversations related to faculty success and professional advancement.
  • Mentor faculty individually and in groups across appointment types and career stages, including early-career, pre-tenure, mid-career, post-tenure, lecturer, and academic leadership pathways.
  • Serve as a Faculty-in-Residence within CTLT by maintaining regular office hours to provide mentorship, consultation, strategic guidance, and leadership to faculty in one-on-one and small-group settings.
  • Provide strategic guidance informed by extensive institutional knowledge, including attention to ethical leadership, institutional culture, faculty workload balance, and sustaining meaningful academic careers over time.
  • Serve on and co-facilitate the CTLT Advisory Board, helping guide discussions, gather faculty feedback, identify emerging faculty needs, and strengthen alignment between CTLT initiatives and institutional priorities.
  • Serve as a faculty leader within the New Faculty Foundations (NFF) initiative by providing mentorship, advising on program development, and contributing to the design and facilitation of faculty learning experiences that support faculty success, professional advancement, and community building across the career arc.
  • Contribute to the creation and curation of high-quality resources that support faculty success in areas such as RSCA, mentorship, advancement, academic leadership, and career planning.
  • Collaborate with CTLT campus partners and the CTLT Advisory Board to gather feedback, strengthen alignment, and ensure responsiveness to evolving faculty needs.
  • Help cultivate a culture of faculty flourishing, collegiality, mentorship, and inclusive excellence across the institution.
  • Support assessment and reflective evaluation efforts to better understand the effectiveness and impact of faculty success initiatives and interventions.

Required Qualifications 

  • Tenured faculty member at Cal Poly.
  • Demonstrated record of leadership, mentorship, and faculty engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting faculty development, professional advancement, and/or research, scholarship, and creative activities (RSCA).
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills, including the ability to engage faculty across disciplines and career stages.

Desired Qualifications 

  • Full professor with a sustained record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, creative activity, mentorship, and service.
  • Experience in academic leadership roles such as department chair/head, program director, associate dean, faculty fellow, senate leadership, or other campus leadership assignments.
  • Familiarity with the mission, purpose, programming, and services of CTLT, including prior participation in, collaboration with, or leadership related to CTLT-sponsored initiatives, programs, workshops, learning communities, or faculty development efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and support faculty across diverse career pathways and professional goals.
  • Familiarity with effective practices related to faculty mentorship, scholarly productivity, promotion and tenure processes, and faculty career sustainability.
  • Experience collaborating across divisions and working effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusive and supportive academic environments.
