CTLT Faculty Fellow | Career Development and Professional Success

Call for Applications 

A key priority of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) is to support holistic faculty success in alignment with the Teacher-Scholar Model. To advance this priority, the CTLT seeks a faculty member to collaborate with CTLT leadership in developing resources and professional development programming to support faculty success in research, scholarship and creative activities (RSCA) and/or for career development. The Faculty Fellow will engage with faculty across disciplines and across career path timelines, collaborate with key CTLT campus partners, and consult with the CTLT Advisory Board to gather feedback and ensure alignment throughout the design and implementation process.  
 


Appointment and Compensation 

The Faculty Fellow for Career Development and Professional Success appointment is for Spring Quarter 2026. The fellow role will come with compensation of 4 Weighted Teaching Units (WTUs) per quarter, and the successful candidate will retain their faculty appointment in their home department. A summer appointment is also an option, based on the fellow’s availability and CTLT program needs. 
 


Duties and Responsibilities 

The Faculty Fellow for Career Development and Professional Success will: 

  • Work closely with CTLT leadership, Academic Personnel, and the Office of Research to explore faculty needs and co-develop programs for faculty seeking to (a) initiate or expand scholarly or creative pursuits and/or (b) learn skills and practices for career development planning and effectively documenting professional accomplishments for formative and summative reviews. 
  • Develop, lead, or co-facilitate faculty development opportunities such as workshops, learning communities, and peer consultations in the areas of RSCA and/or career development. 
  • Mentor faculty as individuals and in groups on topics and challenges distinctive to career paths (e.g., tenure-line, full- and part-time lecturers) and career phases (e.g., early career, pre-tenure, mid-career, post-tenure, etc.). 
  • Contribute to curating and generating resources accessible anytime that support faculty success in the areas of RSCA and/or career development. 
  • Provide strategic guidance informed by extensive institutional knowledge, including explicit attention to ethical leadership, navigating institutional culture, and balancing teaching, scholarship, and service over a career arc. 
  • Provide perspectives on sustaining a meaningful, impactful, and balanced academic career across teaching, scholarship, and service. 
  • Determine and utilize a data-informed assessment plan for measuring the impact of the interventions taken as part of this position. 
     

Required Qualifications 

  • A tenured faculty member at Cal Poly. 
  • Demonstrated experience and success facilitating faculty development and mentoring colleagues in one or both areas of RSCA and/or career development. 
     

Desired Qualifications 

  • Full professor with a record of success of RSCA productivity and professional advancement that represents a positive role model for successful and rewarding faculty careers. 
  • Experience in academic leadership roles (e.g., department head/chair, associate dean, other college and/or campus leadership assignments and initiative contributions). 
  • Familiarity with best practices in scholarly or creative activities productivity and career development. 
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead dialogue around engaging with scholarly or creative activities and career development. 
  • Experience collaborating across divisions with faculty, staff, and administrators.
