CTLT Faculty Fellow | Inclusive and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy
Call for Applications
A key priority of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT), in alignment with the CSU Student Success Framework, is to support inclusive, adaptive, and culturally responsive teaching and learning environments that contribute to universal student success. To advance this mission, the CTLT seeks a faculty member to collaborate with CTLT leadership in developing resources and professional development programming for faculty, aiming to support them in creating learning environments where every student has the necessary academic resources and support to excel.
The Faculty Fellow will play a critical role in collaborating with CTLT leadership to integrate the CSU Student Success Framework across CTLT programs and initiatives. The Faculty Fellow will identify, develop, and share effective, evidence-based teaching practices that advance universal student success. The Faculty Fellow will also lead and/or contribute to a range of projects supporting faculty professional development, including developing materials, resources, and online Canvas modules that promote inclusive and culturally responsive teaching across the university. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Faculty Fellow will engage with faculty across disciplines, collaborate with key CTLT campus partners, and consult with the CTLT Advisory Board to gather feedback and ensure alignment throughout the design and implementation process.
Appointment and Compensation
The appointment is for Spring Quarter 2026, contingent upon the fellow’s availability and program needs. Compensation is 4 Weighted Teaching Units (WTUs) per quarter, and the successful candidate will retain their faculty appointment in their home department. A summer appointment is also an option, based on the fellow’s availability and CTLT program needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Faculty Fellow for Inclusive and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy will:
- Work closely with CTLT leadership to identify the most critical steps necessary to advance inclusive, adaptive, and culturally responsive pedagogy across the university.
- Develop materials, activities, and content for online Canvas modules or a Canvas course to support ongoing faculty professional development in inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy in alignment with the CSU Student Success framework.
- Assess opportunities for integrating Cal Poly student success data into CTLT programming. Develop resources or guides that faculty can use to analyze and act upon student success data in their courses or departments.
- Identify and promote strategies for course design, classroom engagement, and assessment.
- Develop, lead, or co-facilitate faculty development opportunities such as workshops, learning communities, or peer consultations on culturally responsive and inclusive pedagogy.
- Review research on inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy for inclusion in CTLT programming, including in Canvas modules or a Canvas course.
- Contribute to the development of tools or guides to help faculty integrate the CSU Student Success Framework into their teaching.
- Determine and utilize a data-informed assessment plan for measuring the impact of the interventions taken as part of this position to advance inclusive, adaptive, and culturally responsive pedagogy across the university.
Required Qualifications
- A tenure-track or tenured faculty member at Cal Poly.
- Demonstrated expertise in inclusive and culturally responsive teaching theories, frameworks, and practices that contribute to student success and actively address equity gaps.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the success of students from historically underserved or underrepresented communities, including first-generation students, low-income students, students of color, transfer students, and students with disabilities.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with actionable student success data including in the CSU data dashboards and/or Course Equity Portal.
- Familiarity with best practices in course design to support student success.
- Experience facilitating faculty development or mentoring around culturally responsive pedagogy or related topics.
- Experience developing support materials, including resource guides, tip sheets, webpages, Canvas modules, or other teaching resources.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead dialogue around culturally responsive and inclusive teaching.
- Experience collaborating across divisions with faculty, staff, administrators, and students.
- Faculty leadership or administrative experience in student success initiatives.
