Quality Online Learning and Teaching (QOLT) Opportunity

If you have taught a fully online or hybrid/blended (between 30%-70% online) course in 2013, you're eligible for the 2014 CSU Quality Online Learning and Teaching award program (QOLT).

The CTLT will support all Cal Poly instructors interested in preparing nomination documentation. Note: the QOLT program evaluation criteria uses the same rubric that CTLT has been using in its eLearning Initiative and Flipped Course Design workshops. All faculty who have participated in those workshops are well prepared to participate in this program.

If you missed the November 22 online orientation, the recording of the QOLT Informational Webinar (faculty-focused) is now posted at https://sas.elluminate.com/p.jnlp?psid=2013-11-22.1207.M.06E910997119F1B114B35761B9069A.vcr&sid=2008149.

If you wish to apply and have any questions, please contact Catherine Hillman at the CTLT.

The National Academy of Engineering – Inspiring film contest

To celebrate its 50th Anniversary, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) is offering a $25,000 prize for the most inspiring one-to-two minute video focused anywhere in the time period from 1964-2064. Videos should show how engineering innovations advance human welfare and address societal needs. Films are due by Mar 31, 2014.

Proposals from Cal Poly students should be directed to Dr. Jane Lehr.

  •  Let's enter multiple times!
  • Let's think complexly about engineering innovations and benefits!
  • Let's show our entries at Cal Poly during the SLO International Film Festival, March 5-9, 2014.

For more information, please visit the NAE contest website or contact Dr. Lehr.

Grant Initiatives

Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP)

Banner for CDIP

Established in 1987, the CSU CDIP is the largest program of its kind in the United States. As of June 2011 the program has loaned $40 million to 1,872 doctoral students enrolled in universities throughout the nation, and 1,054 of these participants have successfully earned doctoral degrees. Among participants who have earned their doctoral degrees, 600 (57 percent) have subsequently obtained employment in CSU instructional faculty positions.

This program provides student loans to a limited number of individuals pursuing full-time doctoral degrees at accredited universities throughout the United States. After participants receive their doctoral degrees and obtain a qualifying instructional position in the CSU, a portion of their loan from this program will be forgiven every year.

For more information and to access the application, please visit the Chancellor’s website

To help students through the application process the CTLT will be offering application writing and mentoring sessions Fall and Winter quarters. Please check back in the next few weeks for more information on how the CTLT can help prepare you for the application process.

Cal Poly applications for the 2014-2015 CDI Program are due in hard copy at the CTLT by February 3, 2014.

Questions can be directed to the CDIP Coordinator: Robin Parent (805.756.7635)
