Instructional designer & Online Instruction specialist
Catherine Hillman (she/her/hers) is an Instructional Designer at the CTLT and guides faculty in applying transformational pedagogies to their courses, with particular focus on Hybrid and Online instruction methods. She consults in person and online using collaborative applications, and is the campus coordinator for the QA (Quality Assurance) initiative through the CSU.

Dianna Winslow, Ph.D.
Assistant director / Writing Instruction specialist
Dianna (she/her/hers) is CTLT Assistant Director and Writing Instruction Specialist. She promotes and develops Writing Across the Curriculum and Writing in the Disciplines teaching approaches. She provides expertise and scholarship-informed guidance to individual faculty, departments, and colleges on developing teaching and curriculum that foster writing-rich learning environments and equitable, authentic assessments.

Sarah Macdonald, Ph.D.
Interim Director
Sarah Macdonald (she/her/hers) is the interim Director in the CTLT. Sarah's work is directed at promoting instructional improvements to achieve campus goals and contribute to universal student success. She provides expertise and scholarship-informed guidance to individual faculty, departments, and colleges to strengthen teaching and enhance student learning. Her work supports faculty in infusing culturally responsive practices and inclusive excellence into instruction, with the goals of increasing intercultural competency and creating open and inclusive learning environments.

Tonia Malone, M.S.Ed.
Instructional Designer & Lead LMS Admin
Tonia Malone (she/her/hers) is an Instructional Designer and Lead Canvas LMS Administrator. Tonia is available for consultations for effective teaching with the LMS, course objectives and assessment within the LMS, using technologies for teaching and learning, creating accessible course materials, as well as course redesign for hybrid, flipped, and online modalities.

Ariel Setniker, Ph.D.
(she/her/hers)
Senior Faculty Fellow | Cal Poly Maritime Academy Associate Professor
Dr. Ariel Setniker is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education at Cal Poly Maritime Academy with expertise in pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and faculty professional development. She served for three years as Director of Faculty Development at Cal Maritime, where she secured external funding and designed and facilitated programs supporting teaching and faculty success. Her research examines university-level lesson planning, instructors’ use of curriculum, and the implementation and long-term effects of curricular reform. Ariel now joins the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology as a Senior Faculty Fellow, supporting the integration of faculty development programming and resources across Cal Poly’s San Luis Obispo and Maritime (Solano) campuses
M. Taylor Haynes, Ph.D.
Faculty Fellow for Teaching Innovation and Student Success / Cal Poly SLO Associate Professor
Taylor is an Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Cal Poly, SLO. Taylor grew up in Southern California and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. He then earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Michigan and an M.S. in Post-Secondary Science Education. After a post-doc with the REBUILD program at the University of Michigan, he joined the Cal Poly Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in 2015. Taylor now joins the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology as Faculty Fellow for Teaching Innovation and Student Success. He will support several initiatives and projects, including the New Faculty Success Forum.

Tessa Smit

Tessa Smit (she/her/hers) is an Administrative Support Student Assistant. She aids the CTLT staff with various administrative and technical support. Tessa is a first-year Business Administration major with a minor in Environmental Studies.
