Introduction to Equitable and Inclusive Teaching - Summer 2021

SYNCHRONOUS MEETINGS: MOndays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12-1pm; June 21-July 2

(Information below about Synchronous and Asynchronous Components)

Workshop Description

Introduction to Equitable and Inclusive Teaching is an introductory workshop that introduces faculty to evidence-based teaching strategies for equity and inclusion, supports faculty in developing an inclusive course climate, encourages faculty to reflect on the impacts of social identities in higher education teaching and learning environments, and supports faculty in further developing an equitable and inclusive teaching lens. Participating in this program is a way for you to contribute in concrete and powerful ways to our goals of making Cal Poly more equitable and inclusive.

Please note: this program does not replace participation in Teaching Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (TIDE) (on hold for 2021); rather it functions as an introduction to equitable and inclusive teaching that is available for faculty during the academic year and summer.

Stipend Information and Time Commitment

This workshop incorporates a 5-part asynchronous online course (offered through EdX) and synchronous meetings for discussion. This workshop is designed for faculty and instructors who currently teach at Cal Poly. A $200 stipend is available for those who complete all components of the workshop: the online course (including participation in discussions), 6 synchronous meetings, and a final assignment for the program that reflects change(s) made in one’s courses on the basis of this experience (more information on deliverables will be shared with the cohort at the first meeting). Please read the CTLT Stipend eligibility policy to see if you are eligible. Partial stipends for partial participation are not available. Additionally, CTLT will reimburse participants who are eligible for the stipend for the cost of the verified certificate for the asynchronous course through EdX.
