Effective Teaching Practices Program | Home 2023-24
The ETP program offers professional development experiences that provide a deep dive into effective teaching principles and practices. It utilizes the curriculum of the Association of Colleges and Universities (ACUE) accompanied by support of Cal Poly faculty peer mentors. In the certificate program, faculty complete modules to earn the ACUE's Certificate in Effective College Teaching. We also offer opportunities to earn an ACUE microcredential on a particular theme by completing a six-module workshop and opportunities to continue progress using the ACUE curriculum in the ACUE: Year Two program. These programs are a component of Cal Poly's Equity Priority 5 Program.
Program Overview
The Effective Teaching Practices program encompasses four complementary components:
ACUE Certificate in Effective College Teaching
The certificate is a year-long program that encompasses 25 modules grouped in four microcredentials and extends throughout an academic year.

ACUE: Year Two
This program is designed for those who have completed the full ACUE certificate. It's an opportunity to take advantage of extended access to the online workshop materials to revisit and further explore the concepts and models and to apply more of the recommended methods.
ACUE Microcredential (specific themes)
ACUE offers a number of microcredentials on specific instructional themes. Each microcredential encompasses six modules centered on a specific theme extends through an academic quarter. They are offered as funding is available. When offered, these are prioritized for faculty who teach in higher enrollment foundational course sequences that are required for multiple majors.
